Sunrise Medical Laboratories, in conjunction with Imugen, is pleased to offer Tick-Borne Disease Testing. These tests are designed to provide clinicians with unquestionably superior but not widely available testing techniques to aid in the diagnosis of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. The Lyme Disease test panel includes a set of assays, which are highly sensitive in early infection and extremely accurate in laboratory diagnosis of Lyme meningitis, carditis and arthritis. The antibody capture test is used in association with immunoblotting (Western blots) to provide patterns of antibody isotype responses that are characteristic with the different stages of infection with B. burgdorferi. Acute and convalescent testing is also available because all specimens are archived for 6 years. Archived specimen testing when combined with Imugen's quantification of the immunoglobulin levels provides the clinician with unique and unprecedented aids in making stage-specific diagnosis.

Why is Imugen testing different from the ELISA or IFA methods?
This strategy does not rely on a single test to support a diagnosis of Lyme based on a single marker for infection. Rather, Imugen uses a combination of antibody capture assays and Western blots to provide diagnostic support based on a series of highly specific markers. The antibody capture test employs an antibody reagent to bind and concentrate immunoglobulins of a specific class (IgM, IgG and IgA) prior to reaction with antigen and enzyme immunoassay. Along with the Western blots, this information provides a more detailed and comprehensive basis for diagnosis and eliminates the need to "confirm" positive or equivocal results with a separate Western blot.

What about patients who have received the Lyme vaccine?
Commercial ELISA tests will be frequently positive in vaccinated patients. Imugen eliminates false positive results in Lyme vaccinated patients and can discern current Lyme infection even in vaccinated patients.

Why should I use Imugen testing?
Recent studies demonstrate that Imugen’s testing protocols correctly diagnosed 91% of well characterized (e.g. culture proven) early Lyme disease cases while commercial IgM and IgG ELISA identified only 55% of cases and the IgM Western blot alone identified only 64% of these cases. Furthermore, this testing program unlike other testing strategies distinguishes active Lyme from past infection as well as recently vaccinated patients.

Sunrise Medical Laboratories offers the ThinPrep Pap Test with a Digene HPV Assay from a single ThinPrep sample vial. If the Pap result is ASCUS or AGUS our laboratories can then perform an HPV Assay from the same collected specimen.

  • For ASCUS Patients, HPV Triage Identifies High-Risk Women
  • Clinical studies indicate that the Digene HPV Assay can detect human papillomavirus in up to 92% of the cases where high-grade cervical cancer is present.
  • Predicts those women most likely to develop cervical disease. Women with high-risk HPV types are eleven times more likely to develop cervical disease (Koutsky, LA. A cohort study of the risk of cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia grade 2 or 3 in relation to Papillomavirus infection. NEJM 1992:327, 1272-1278).
  • As an adjunct to the Pap, the Digene HPV Assay aids in earlier detection of more disease.
  • The ThinPrep Pap and the HPV Assay both have AMA assigned CPT codes. Insurers treat both tests like any other laboratory test.

The benefit of this breakthrough technology is clear: Greater diagnostic confidence!
